Best Places to Visit in Spain
Spain is a country like no other! While it is smaller than the state of Texas, Spain has every kind of terrain you could imagine. It can be overwhelming to decide where to go. Thankfully, I’ve put together a master list of the best places to visit in Spain. ¡Vamos!
Granada
The most fairytale-like city you will ever go to! Wow talk about a slice of heaven. Granada, Spain is in the Andalusia community and you do not want to miss it. This historically rich city has Islamic, Christian, and Jewish influences in every corner. Another bonus of this city is that most restaurants offer you FREE tapas with your beer!
Must sees:
Tenerife, The Canary Islands
While all the Canary Islands are beautiful (and affordable) there’s something special about Tenerife. The island is known for their national “dark spots” meaning they have some of the best places to stargaze in Spain! My best tip is to rent a car at the Tenerife airport and explore the island in its entirety.

In Madrid, you really can’t go wrong! I recommend going to Retiro Park; stunning, romantic, and you can even take a boat ride through it. Make sure to visit the Palacio Cristal while you’re in the park as well. After Retiro, head over to the Prado to visit one of the most famous museums in the world.
Of all the neighborhoods / barrios in Madrid, do yourself a favor and walk through Malasaña. It is magical, colorful, and lively. Let yourself get lost, go to the local cafes, and grab a drink at La Bicicleta Café.
For the best sunset, go to Siete Tetas. Just pick a hill, bring some wine and cheese, and enjoy the view.
Mallorca, Las Islas Baleares
The Balearic Islands just off the East coast of Spain and absolutely worth visiting. This mediterranean island is known for its scenic mountains and beaches. The capital city, Palma, is full of palm trees, breath taking views, and its famous Gothic Cathedral.
Must sees: The Gothic Cathedral in Palma is an essential visit! After touring, you can easily walk through the capital city and see the streets lined with palm trees. As far as beaches go, there is no shortage of options, my personal favorite beaches are in Alcúdia because they overlook the cliffs of Mallorca.
Toledo
Toledo, Spain is one of the oldest cities in the country. Legacies of wars, artists, and adventure are evident throughout all of Toledo. It’s about an hour south of Madrid and easy to get to! Pictured above is the one of the most famous wedding venues in Spain; Finca Malpartida. The family who owns it is incredibly kind and welcoming.
Must sees:
For the best views, definitely visit Puente de San Martín. You can also do to Mirador del Valle which serves as a great viewpoint for the entire city! If you want to learn a little bit more about Toledo’s history, visit the Alcázar. It’s the city’s highest point and full of Roman, Moorish, and Spanish history.
Other Notable Cities in Spain:
Asturias: Northwestern city in Spain known for its vast green landscapes and remarkable cathedrals. Visit Oviedo and Gijón!
Seville: The birthplace of Flamenco dancing! Go during Holy Week (Semana Santa) for unforgettable festivals.
Segovia: Full of castles and beautiful hikes, Segovia is just a short train ride from Madrid. It’s the perfect day trip!
